Gutter brightening solves a different problem than gutter debris removal
Homeowners often search for gutter cleaning when the problem they actually see is on the outside face. Interior gutter cleaning clears the drainage channel. Gutter brightening, gutter whitening and exterior gutter cleaning focus on the visible painted surface.

Why gutters can still look dirty after a house wash
General house washing can remove ordinary organic buildup and loose grime, but dark vertical streaks and bonded contamination on painted gutter faces can remain. That does not automatically mean the house wash failed; it can mean the gutter surface needs a more targeted process.
Brightening chemistry and agitation should be selected with the gutter coating in mind. Older, chalky or oxidized finishes can react differently from newer painted aluminum.
Dark vertical streaks, oxidation and ordinary grime are not the same condition
Tiger Stripes
Dark vertical streaks can form where runoff and airborne contaminants repeatedly travel down the gutter face. Bonded streaks can need more than a standard soft wash.
Oxidation & Chalking
Faded, powdery or chalky paint is a coating condition. Cleaning may improve dirt, but oxidation itself should not be promised as fully reversible.
Downspout Faces
Visible downspouts can collect the same dark runoff marks and exterior grime and can be included when coating condition is appropriate.
A targeted process for compatible exterior gutter faces
When gutter brightening makes sense

Best paired with exterior cleaning when appearance matters
Brightening is especially useful when the house exterior is clean but the gutters remain visibly streaked, or when white and light-colored gutter faces show dark vertical marks from the street.
It can be quoted on its own or reviewed alongside house washing. Interior debris removal remains separate on the Gutter Cleaning page.

Common gutter-whitening questions
What is gutter brightening?
It is specialty cleaning for the visible exterior face of compatible gutters and downspouts, especially bonded grime and dark streaks that ordinary house washing may not fully remove.
What are gutter tiger stripes?
They are dark vertical streaks that form on exterior gutter faces as runoff and airborne grime move down the painted surface.
Is gutter brightening the same as gutter cleaning?
No. Gutter cleaning removes debris inside the drainage channel. Brightening cleans the visible outside faces.
Can brightening remove oxidation?
Cleaning can remove compatible grime, but oxidation, chalking, faded paint and coating failure are different conditions and may remain.
Is brightening included with house washing?
Not automatically. Bonded tiger stripes or oxidation-related appearance can require a separate process.
Can downspouts be brightened too?
Compatible painted downspout faces can be included when they are part of the quoted scope.
Will every gutter look new after brightening?
No. Results depend on coating age, oxidation, staining and previous damage. Brightening is cleaning, not repainting.
Still seeing dark stripes on your gutters?
Send clear photos of the exterior gutter faces and downspouts. We can review whether the issue looks like ordinary grime, tiger striping or a coating condition that may not respond like normal dirt.
